Revision Index set to Alpha by default

Revision Index set to Alpha by default

Create an option in the Application Options or in the Style Revision Table/Tag to set the Revision Index to Alpha/Numeric by default.

Now you have to select Alpha for each new drawing created.

I agree that this should probably be in the Style settings.  Most companies don't switch back and forth, so they will either use Alpha all the time, or Numeric all the time.  For something that is generally used that way, it doesn't make much sense to have to select these settings every time a revision table is placed.

In the meantime, you can reduce the pain of the current setup slightly by placing revision table (with the desired index settings) in your template file.  That way it already exists when you start a new drawing, so you get to skip the placement process entirely.

Status changed to: Future Consideration

Idea added to backlog for future consideration [17506]. Thanks!

Please consider, we only use alpha, and when someone creates it and selects the wrong one it creates more work down the road.

I agree that alpha or numerical needs to be selectable.  A good place would be in application options, drawings tab.  There is room beneath the "Capacity Performance" section for another small section; maybe something like "Revision Table Index" with a check box for either "Alpha" or "Numeric".

Keep in mind that the Application Options is local.

But the Style and Standards can be on the network and is therefor a better solution.

I agree, Style and Standards would work as well.

2020 now how much longer do you need to consider adding a alpha / number default check box.

Its been done like this since 2009. No matter the up votes - it will probably be done like this tomorrow. But count this as an up vote to get this functionality.

Inventor 2022 still de the same.

How difficult is it to add an option in de Style editor or in the Application options

How difficult is it to apply this?

When will this simple check box be added to the Revision Table in the Styles and Standard Editor? We only use letters.

Autodesk - y'all... come on. You have the ability to do so many cool things, but, sometimes miss the little details like defining revision style through standard styles library.  Maybe for Inventor 2022.2???

Another nice option would be ability to automatically define primary or secondary revision levels. Example: A1, A2, B1.

This is very beneficial for drawing revisions that are otherwise mundane (adding missed dimension or callout, etc.) where upping the revision letter wouldn't necessarily.

This tripped us up recently too.

Really needs to happen.

Now, I am using 2023, and still not get what I need. Is it too hard?

Any progress on this matter?

Agree with what was said here. this "alpha"/"number" checker should be in rev tbl style. what is the point to have "style" of something if you still need to change parameters manually later??

Now on 2024....

I have multiple different customers, every single one uses alpha, not numeric revision index. This just needs adding to the revision table style options in styles, surely??
